Our History

Farrell Bros. Inc. was founded in 1921 by Martin E. Farrell, Sr. and his brothers.  They started as full-service plumbers and traveled throughout the city by trolley, carrying their tools with them.  This grew increasingly more frustrating because they would get to the job and find out they didn’t have the proper tools or parts.

To alleviate this problem they bought their first truck in 1925 and stocked it with every tool and part they needed, one of the first in the city to do so. At this time, they coined the phrase: “The Original Plumbing Shop on Wheels.”

As time progressed after World War II, Martin E. Farrell, Sr., had five sons who entered the business. They were David, Martin II, Joseph, Frank, and Pete. In 1959, the company president, David, moved the business to 300 Delaware Avenue in Albany. From this location, they would send their trucks and plumbers to job sites, literally running a store out of their truck and employing up to twelve people.

In 1985, David sold the business to his son, David M. Farrell, who ran the business until 1995. At that time, the business was purchased by its current owner/president, Randy L. Rowe, who had been with the company for 10 years. Farrell Bros., Inc., has now grown into a full-service plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning contractor. We service both residential and commercial accounts and offer 24-hour emergency service.

In 2003 Farrell Bros., Inc., relocated to its current location at 6 Simmons Lane in Menands.  The relocation was necessary due to the company’s growth and the increasing demand for quality service.  Our new facility is located just off of Broadway near 787.  Along with offering plumbing, heating and air conditioning services and installations, we also provide electrical services.  Our retail store stocks a wide variety of plumbing and heating parts and supplies available for purchase by the consumer.
